As I told you last month, I began my business in 2011 to effect change for myself and my clients after spending several years feeling like I made no difference in the world in my corporate job. As any business owner knows, there are A LOT of bumps in the road to creating a business you love that fulfills your purpose. Here’s a list of many of the bumps and roadblocks that I had to crash through:

  • Original company – Organizing by Jennifer – I realized within 2 months that I didn’t want to do home organizing. Uh-oh.
  • Is Technology Organizing a thing? It is now!
  • I don’t know what I’m doing, so let’s hire a business coach, or 2, or 3…
  • Be a speaker? Sure, I can do that.
  • Put on classes and workshops? I can do that, too…but no one’s showing up…what do I do?
  • I’m not finding clients and money is tight, so I’ll get a part-time job! Yuck.
  • Surprise! Now I have 2 partners and a whole new business!!
  • Wow, more people means more drama, huh? And, by the way, having business partners is like being married to more people. LOL.
  • Uh-oh…now I have 1 partner…
  • Money is tight, so I’ll work temp jobs on the side! Sigh.
  • Business identity crisis! Name change here we come.
  • Why am I feeling overworked and overwhelmed? Oops – I volunteered for too many things.
  • Start a YouTube channel? Sure, I can do that.
  • Uh-oh…now I don’t have any partners. What’s next??
  • Oh, now I remember the freedom of making my own decisions, so I’ll rebrand!

Although it might not seem like it, I wouldn’t trade my road bumps and roadblocks for anything, because I have learned SO MUCH! I’m now a better leader, a smarter business owner and I’m exceptionally qualified to be a mentor. Haha.
