I had a great conversation with my client today about people who sign up for programs expecting the “get rich quick” schemes. We were dismayed at the number of people who won’t take any action when they realize they’ve found a program that takes effort and time, even though it will likely create lasting wealth when hard work is put in. Are the “get rich quick” schemes shortcuts? Are life shortcuts ever good or beneficial? Do we expect more shortcuts these days with the amount of instant gratification provided by technology? I don’t claim to have the answers – I’m merely pondering today. Haha!
It’s interesting to me that shortcuts in my world of technology training are wonderful, productive and efficient things. I’m constantly teaching shortcuts. So, why are life shortcuts perceived as bad? Is it because we need to put in the hard work to learn the lessons and/or build the habits? Perhaps. This makes absolute sense from the productivity part of my world. However, I do believe that learning from others who have already “been there” gives you a bit of a shortcut, or maybe we should call it a boost. I’m sure everyone’s perspective will be different on these topics.
I think this also pulls in the concept of “too good to be true.” My husband and I often talk about this one and how we both grew up learning to be doubtful of those “too good to be true” offers or situations. Although there is an air of sadness at having to be skeptical, that is more and more the world we live in. I want to caution all of you to be especially careful of these “too good to be true” moments with phone calls and emails from strangers – even emails from recognized companies. The hackers of the world are getting better and better at preying on those who don’t have the skepticism that I do. Please be careful and take the time to fully consider what you’re hearing or reading instead of taking rash action.
No matter what you believe the answer is to “Are there shortcuts in life?,” I wish you a life that is full of happiness, love and fulfillment.
